humpback whale Why Whales Matter and What You can Do About ItWhales are one of the most popular yet gentlest creatures in the marine ecosystem. In the past, different types of whales, from killer whales, humpback whales and Minke whales, were flourishing and migrating throughout the globe from the Pacific Ocean to the deep Atlantic. Nonetheless, at present, the whale species have actually been threatened of extinction as a outcome of illegal and inhumane tasks that is transpiring as we speak. Whales as well as other animals of fish, including dolphins, have actually been significantly influenced in a detrimental means due to human fishing tasks that have led to the frequent and gradual depletion of these attractive marine animals.

One country in specific that has actually been engaging in this inhumane and immoral task against nature is Japan. Big whale angling vessels have been dispatched around the marines of Japan, primarily in the western Pacific Ocean, to hunt down innocent whales and collect their meat and additional parts to be utilized for oil, fertilizer, perfume, shampoo, cleansing soap, gelatin, margarine and additional products. Regardless of the usages it can bring, these living creatures should not have to pay their lives simply for this senseless purpose.

One organization has actually strongly objected to this wrongful activity and has aimed to save the whales from near extinction. The Sea Shepherd is an intercontinental non-profit organization that was established last 1977. As stated in their mission statement, the business aims to stop the destruction of the marine environment and the slaughter of wildlife around the entire world’s oceans in order to preserve and guard the animals and ecosystems.

Seas Shepherd makes usage of state-of-the-art direct-action techniques to investigate record and take required activities when necessary to make the world aware of what’s actually occuring and to confront these unlawful businesses right as they are hunting the whales. By safeguarding the biodiversity of the world’s exquisitely-balanced ocean environment, Marine Shepherd ensures the continuity of this marine life for future generations to come.

The illegal whale hunts have actually not stopped. More wants to be done to eliminate whaling before the animals is entirely reduced. Sea Shepherd is committed to this fight. Visit Sea Shepherd to learn more.

Has the population for humpback whales increased or decreased over the past two years? Also, what was the actual population for the past two years? And what percentage did it go up or down? Thank you!

The most actual site I found is Review of Australia?s Humpback Whale Populations from April 2008 http://209.85.229.132/search?q=cache:7EmaFdDM0hMJ:www.marinemammals.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0014/329/Humpback-Whale-workshop-April-2008.pdf+humpback+whales%2Bpast+two+years%2Bpopulation%2Bincrease+or+decrease&hl=de&gl=de It reports that from 1981 to 2004 population was increasing at approximately 11% per year, but a study from 2007 includes aerial surveys which suggest that approximately 30% of whales are not recorded by the land based surveys. This 2007 data set requires further analysis to obtain a population estimate and also verify the proportion of whales missed by the land-based survey station. And it closes: In summary, any single survey prior to 2010 is unlikely to detect a slowing in the population?s growth rate. Also if a survey in 2010 failed to detect a slowing growth rate then the data are still consistent with a K of 30,000. Only a survey in 2012 would be able to detect a slowing growth rate if the current carrying capacity of the population is 30,000. What ever happened to those humpback whales stranded in the bay? I haven’t heard anything about them anymore.. are they still alive?, did they get them out of the bay and back into the ocean?, or did they die?, i can’t find any updated news on them, does anyone know what became of them? i posted this question in pets>fish because other wise no one answers it in the science section

  4. i think they are out to sea now :)

  5. Last I heard: They were last seen almost back to the ocean. They disappeared after that last sighting and were presumed to have returned to the Pacific.

  6. copperhead says:

As of May 30, they were back in the area of the San Fransisco Bay Bridge, and weren’t seen on the 31, so they’re believed to have gone back to the ocean. 9. xanzibar says:

No the girl whales don’t like the boy whales.

  10. Dream about swimming with humpback whales? I had an aswesome dream last night that I was swimming in the ocean harmoneously, with my husband, and 2 humpback whales. It was so vivid and awesome. Any idea what it could mean? Also, I should mention, I love the ocean and I love whales! I live near the ocean, however in real life swimming in the open water like I was would scare me, but I wasn’t scared at all I was so happy! It was night time in the dream too.

  11. stephen k says:

The big point is what the whales represent to you. perhaps they are a caliber of harmony that you can share with your husband. Anyway, it is always nice to wake up happy

How do Humpback whales know where to migrate in the winter? Alaskan humpback whales migrate mostly to the Hawaiian islands for the winter because of their depleting food source in Alaska, but my question is how do they know where to go? is it the change in temperature or does is have something to do with the equator or something else… any help is much appreciated!

  13. Why do humpback whales migrate in the hawaiian waters!? Please give me a very informative website or lots of details of why the whales migrate here and why its best if they do it here. Be very descriptive! But please answer im tired its late and i need this to finish my homework!

  14. bravozulu says:

The arctic ocean gets most of its light in the summertime and there is an explosion of algae and plankton. The whales take advantage of that abundance and fatten up. They then migrate to much warmer waters in the winter to give birth to their calves. It is very cold and stormy in the north and not suitable for the calves to be born there. http://seagrant.uaf.edu/news/97ASJ/11.25.97_WhaleMigration.html
